I have switched from Wordpress to a custom Django app

When I first decided to create this blog, I had intended to write a custom Django application for it. Instead, due to time constraints, I just went with a Wordpress blog. And it actually worked out pretty well for me. I really don’t have any complaints with Wordpress. I just wanted to write my own blog in Django.

After writing this little blog application, I have decided that Django is freaking amazing. This application does just about everything I need it to and I wrote it in about a week in my spare time. To anybody who is on the fence with Django, my recommendation is to dive in. It’s sexy.

To those of you who had accounts on my old site

I have not ported your accounts over to my new system and I am not sure that I will. I simply didn’t have enough regular users to warrant making the effort. If I get enough requests, I will take a look into it. Otherwise I probably won’t.

My personal site is finally here!

Being the web development prodigy that I am, I’ve decided to bestow this gift upon the world. I will use this blog to pump the internet full of my own brand of infallible genius on an almost regular basis. I hope you find it completely useless.

The design

The design of this site is a matter of personal pride for me. I am not a designer by any means, so the fact that I was able to design a site that doesn’t induce seizures in my audience is something I’m quite proud of. I chose brown and blue because somebody recently pointed out to me that I rarely wear anything that isn’t brown, blue or a combination there-of, so when it came time to design my site, the color scheme was an obvious choice.

Wordpress

I initially intended to write my own blog application with the Django framework, and I still may, but at the moment I just can’t justify spending the time on it. It took me less than a couple hours to set up this theme on Wordpress (although the design itself took considerably longer). When I’m not so busy with paid work, maybe I’ll come back and build myself a Django blog, but it’s just not a priority at the moment.

My projects

The other reason I decided to put this blog up is so I could consolidate all my projects onto one site. Right now I’ve got all my projects scattered randomly around the interwebs, and hopefully this site will change all that.
